La Costa del Sol
Located in the southern Spanish region of Andalucia, this region boasts having the most popular coastal area in the whole of Europe. With over 300 km of Spanish Mediterranean coastline in the provinces of Malaga, Granada, and Cadiz. The main attraction of the Costa del Sol is the many sun-drenched beaches running from Gibraltar to the province city of Malaga; this together with its excellent climate and sporting facilities, makes it the perfect holiday destination.
Our apartment is located in the Nueva Andalusia district of Puerto Banus, just west of Marbella, before the small town of San Pedro de Alcantara. Malaga airport is 40 km to the north, with good motorway connections.
Puerto Banus is reputed to be the most fashionable resort on the Costa del Sol, and is famous for its magnificent yacht marina, restaurants and designer shops. The new, smart, department store, El Corte Ingles, a cinema complex and shopping centres are located in the centre of the town. The nightlife is incredible with a huge choice of alfresco bars, piano clubs, and discos, and the international Casino is only 5 minutes from our Apartment.
Close to our Apartment is the bullring, where every Saturday morning a popular street market is held, a great place to pick up all sorts of bargains, and souvenirs.
A sandy beach is a 10 – 15 minute walk away, and the facilities there include pedalos, canoes, restaurant’s and bars. To the West of the town centre is a lovely sandy beach, which holds a European blue flag. Good selection of local restaurants in the nearby village of La Campania and the Andalucia Plaza Hotel area. Boat trips to Marbella leave and return all through the day.
We have lots of information for guests in the apartment; we can recommend visits to Ronda (a historical mountain town famous for its spectacular gorge), Benahavis (a lovely Andalucian village with a great selection of restaurants), Mijas (mountain village with craft and gift shops) and Nerja (famous for its prehistoric caves). Even Gibraltar and Granada are within driving distance. Marbella has many interesting places to visit, including the Old Town, museums and galleries, not to mention the shopping opportunities.
Family Attractions for a special day out, include a water park and a zoo close to Fuengirola, Tivoli World amusement park and Sea Life Park on the Benalmadena coast, and Selwo Nature Park near Estepona. Family boat trips run most days from the Puerto Banus harbour.
Sports Costa del Sol
The Andalucian region has a huge variety of different facilities available for the more sporting visitor, from skiing in the Sierra Nevada (2 hours from Malaga) to game fishing in the Mediterranean sea. For those who like rock climbing the wide range of cliffs and rock faces in the small white villages will keep enthusiasts well occupied. Other sports that are catered for in the region are golf (see below), tennis (international club close to our apartment), horse riding & trekking, sailing, scuba diving and much more.
Costa Del Golf
Ranked no.1 golf destination in Europe, the Costa del “Golf”, which has now become the new name for the region, is the most visited part of Europe for golfing holidays. The peak season for golf is September to May, because of the easy temperatures in the autumn, winter, and spring. From our apartment, it will take no longer than ten minutes to drive to any one of the nearby, very popular courses of Aloha, Los Naranjos, La Quinta and Las Brisas. For someone a little less serious about the game, the nine-hole La Dama De Noche course is also very close by. Another 25 quality courses are no more than one hour’s drive away, from Torrequebrada, just south of Malaga, to Valderrama on the way to Gibraltar.
More detailed information can be provided, and golfers are advised to bring their latest score cards and handicap certificate as some courses may demand these before you play.
